24th IMOG Bremen, 6-11 September 2009
The 24th IMOG, was held in the dynamic city of Bremen. The organisation, facilities, socialising and science were excellent. A record of the meeting will be published in Organic Geochemistry in 2010. The next meeting in September 2011 will be held in Interlaken, Switzerland.
New EAOG Board Membership
In September 2009, the second term of two of the EAOG Board members (Lewis and González-Vila) ended and new members had to be elected. The Board nominated two candidates – Ian D. Bull and José A. González-Pérez – for the open positions and, as no other candidates were put forward by our Membership, both were unanimously elected during the General Assembly held on Thursday 10 September 2009 during the 24th IMOG in Bremen.
Membership Renewal for 2009
EAOG Members should have received a renewal notice from Elsevier. If you have not received the renewal notice or have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact the Membership Secretary, Ian Bull.
Keep up-to-date with the Literature!
For a while now literature references relevant to our field have been published in Organic Geochemistry and now we are making the database files available on a monthly basis. So keep yourself abreast with the literature and update your personal database regularly!
The Board of the EAOG would like to thank Dr Clifford Walters for his hard work compiling the monthly updates and for making them available to us.
The Pieter Schenck Award
The Pieter Schenck Award is given by the European Association of Organic Geochemists (EAOG) every second year to a scientist normally under 35 years of age who has made a major contribution in any specific area of organic geochemistry or a related field.
During the closing ceremony of the 24th IMOG in Bremen, the 2009 Pieter Schenck Award was confered on Helen Talbot.
The previous awardees are Jaap Sinninghe Damsté (1993); Mark McCaffrey (1995); Kate Freeman (1997), Stefan Schouten (1999), Kliti Grice (2001), Richard Pancost (2005) and Marcel Kuypers (2007).
EAOG Travel Awards Increased in Value
The Board of EAOG is pleased to announce that the maximum value of a Travel Award is now €5,000 (increased from €3,500). EAOG is able to do this thanks to the generous sponsorship of the following companies:
     Chevron
     Geoservices
     Schlumberger
     Shell
The new travel awards will be known by the name of the sponsoring company.
We hope that this will encourage more students to apply for the awards, terms and conditions for which can be found on our Awards Page
On-Line Access to Organic Geochemistry
Current, paid-up members of the Association have full electronic access to current articles published in Organic Geochemistry as well as those going back to 1995. The Board and Elsevier are currently discussing the possibility of members having access to the entire archive of Organic Geochemistry back to volume 1. Watch this space!
To obtain access, follow the registration instructions and in a few minutes you'll be reading your favourite journal on-line! If you have any difficulties, contact the Membership Secretary, Ian Bull.
